Reading the PDF…
Important: compression redraws every page as an image. The file gets smaller, but the text will no longer be selectable or searchable, and links and form fields are lost. Keep your original file.
Pages drawn at 150 dpi, high JPEG quality. Good for reading and printing.
Pages drawn at 110 dpi, medium JPEG quality. A good balance for email.
Pages drawn at 72 dpi, lower JPEG quality. Smallest file, best for screen reading.
Result
Make a PDF smaller for email and sharing, right in your browser. Choose low, medium or high compression, see the size before and after, and download the lighter file. Your PDF is never uploaded. One thing to know first: the text in the compressed PDF is no longer selectable.
How to compress a PDF
- Drop your PDF into the box above, or click to choose it.
- Pick a compression level: low keeps the best quality, high gives the smallest file.
- Click “Compress PDF”, compare the sizes and download the result. If it is not smaller than your original, the original is kept.
Why compress a PDF?
Email services and online forms often refuse attachments above 10 or 25 MB, and big files are slow to send and download. This tool redraws every page as a JPEG at a lower resolution, which can shrink scanned documents and image-heavy PDFs a lot. The price is that the pages become pictures: the text can no longer be selected, searched or copied, and links and form fields are lost. Keep your original file.
Frequently asked questions
Is this PDF compressor free?
Yes. It’s free, with no sign-up, no watermark and no daily limit.
Is my PDF uploaded to a server?
No. The pages are redrawn and the new PDF is built in your browser. Your file never leaves your device.
Can I still select the text after compressing?
No. Every page becomes an image, so the text is no longer selectable or searchable, and links and form fields are lost. If you need those, keep the original.
What do the compression levels do?
Low redraws the pages at 150 dpi with high JPEG quality, medium at 110 dpi, and high at 72 dpi with lower quality for the smallest file.
What if the result is not smaller?
Some PDFs, such as text documents, are already small. When the compressed version is not smaller, the tool says so and keeps your original.
Is there a size or page limit?
Files up to 50 MB and 100 pages. The limits are lower on phones and tablets, to keep your device from running out of memory.
